Basil -

the name of male origin późnogreckiego. It com es from the adjective royal, imperial (basíleios [1], from the second century Basilios pronounced), the noun Basileus - King, the chief, the emperor [2]. Its form is a variant Bazyliusz a fe male counterpart - Bazyla [3]. In the Middle Ages on Polish territory this name appeared in both acquired by the Latin form of Basil (first recorded in 1216 year [4]), and - mostly in the area wschodniosłowiańskim language [5] - and Vasily Vasily (j) (the first occurrence from 1228 [6]).
